CERN forthcoming tendering procedures

Overview

CERN plans two electricity-supply contracts through the French transmission network: one for 2027–2028 during accelerator shutdown and another for 2029–2031, with two optional years. The stated volumes are 0.5 TWh per year during shutdown and 1.5 TWh per year when the accelerator complex is running. The supplier should have experience with comparable long-term energy contracts for large industrial sites. Estimated costs exceed CHF 10 million. An invitation to tender was estimated for January 2027.

Framework Market Survey concerning the electricity supply for CERN: one contract to cover 2027-2028 and a second contract to cover 2029-2031 (optional 2032-33)

Framework Market Survey concerning the electricity supply for CERN: one contract to cover 2027-2028 and a second contract to cover 2029-2031 (optional 2032-33) The supply of electricity to CERN, via the French transmission network, for the powering of CERN's accelerators, experiments, technical infrastructure and tertiary facilities. CERN intends to place a contract for a duration of two years (2027-2028) when the accelerator complex will be shut down. CERN further intends to place a contract for a duration of three years (2029-2031 + 2 additional optional years) when the accelerator complex will be restarted. The firm shall have proven experience in electricity supply, including several long-term contracts for the supply of electrical energy to large industrial plants with quality and quantity requirements comparable to CERN's, namely 0.5 TWh per year when accelerator complex is shut-down and 1.5 TWh per year when accelerator complex is running. Estimated cost range: > 10M CHF Procedure stage: Market Survey; next step (estimated): Invitation to Tender 01/2027
